About us
Girls Run the World is an organisation working to empower young women in diplomacy and international relations. We run programs and events that create opportunities for young women to engage with the diplomatic community and experience what the life of a diplomat is like. As we look to the year ahead, GRTW is looking to expand what we do and is looking to expand our volunteer team.
About the role
Position: Social Media Officer (multiple available)
Time commitment: 5-7 hours a week (volunteer)
Reports to: Head of Marketing and Communications
Portfolio: Marketing and Communications
Location: Virtual, Australia-based. Preference for Officers based in Melbourne
or Canberra
Roles and Responsibilities
Please note that GRTW is a volunteer run organisation and this position is voluntary.
Social Media Officers are responsible for supporting GRTW’s marketing and communications to promote, grow and connect with our community. Officers will be led by the Head of Marketing and Communications to plan and create content as well as develop their communications skills. This is a hands-on role for someone with a passion for international relations, gender equality and developing interest in marketing and content creation.
In this position, you will:
Support the vision for GRTW’s marketing and communications strategy by creating content and updating our social media, website and email
Assist with delegated content creation tasks to promote GRTW programs, events and volunteer recruitment initiatives in a creative and engaging way that connects with our community
Develop your digital and teamwork skills under the leadership of the Head of Marketing and Communications, alongside fellow Social Media Officers and the wider GRTW team
Learn how to monitor marketing engagement and performance
Desired Skills and Experience
As a supporting role in the GRTW team, a developing interest or previous experience in social media platforms (particularly LinkedIn and Instagram), content creation, and teamwork is desirable. These skills can be demonstrated through paid employment, related studies, an internship or in another voluntary capacity. Other desired skills and experience include:
Passionate about gender equality and empowering young women
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team members and wider GRTW team
Interest in learning more about content creation platforms like Canva and creating posts, short-form content (i.e. reels), and stories
Enjoys brainstorming, creative thinking and working with a small team to create ideas on how to grow and engage a vibrant community
