The Melbourne Takeover Program
How We Started
Established in 2025, GRTW Melbourne builds on the foundations of GRTW Canberra, bringing its mission and values to Melbourne’s distinct diplomatic and policy ecosystem. The program was created to reflect Melbourne’s role as a key centre for international engagement in Australia.
Our Purpose
GRTW Melbourne aims to broaden what a career in international relations can look like for women. We seek to demystify foreign policy by providing insight into the diverse institutions, roles, and career pathways that shape global affairs.
Consulate Generals
Melbourne’s consular community forms the backbone of the city’s diplomatic presence. Consulate Generals contribute significantly to Melbourne’s cultural and international vibrancy while supporting strong relationships with diasporic communities across the city.
Think Tanks & Institutions
Think tanks and policy institutions play a key role in advancing foreign policy dialogue and public understanding. Through these partnerships, participants engage with scholars and practitioners at the forefront of policy discussions, strengthening connections between Melbourne and the global community.
In our pilot program, we partnered with 5 Consulate Generals and 4 leading Asia–Australia Think Tanks

“This program didn’t just inspire me, it moved me. It made me realise how real and reachable a career in diplomacy and international relations is, especially for young people who care about making the world fairer, healthier, safer, and more connected.”
