About us
Girls Run the World is an organisation working to empower young women in diplomacy and international relations. We run programs and events that create opportunities for young women to engage with the diplomatic community and experience what the life of a diplomat is like. As we look to the year ahead, GRTW is looking to expand what we do and is looking to expand our volunteer team.
About the role
Position: Head of Marketing and Communications
Time commitment: 5-10 hours a week (volunteer)
Reports to: CEO
Portfolio: Marketing and Communications
Location: Virtual, Australia-based
Roles and Responsibilities
Please note that GRTW is a volunteer run organisation and this position is voluntary.
The Head of Marketing and Communications is responsible for leading GRTW’s marketing and communications strategy to promote, grow and connect with our community. They will lead and support Social Media Officers to create content and develop their skills. This is a hands-on role for someone with a passion for international relations, gender equality and communicating this passion with the wider community. In this position, you will:
Develop and implement the vision for GRTW’s marketing and communications strategy on our social media, website and email
Lead and support the Marketing and Communications team by coordinating content planning, overseeing tasks delegated to and developing the digital skills of Social Media Officers
Collaborate with Program team members to promote GRTW programs, events and volunteer recruitment initiatives
Collaborate with the Executive team (CEO and Heads of portfolios) on strategic priorities and vision for GRTW
Monitor marketing engagement and report to CEO
Desired Skills and Experience
As a key leadership role in the GRTW team, previous experience and/or knowledge in social media coordination (LinkedIn and Instagram), content creation, and team leadership is desirable. These skills can be demonstrated through paid employment, related studies, an internship or in another voluntary capacity. Other desired skills and experience include:
Passionate about gender equality and empowering young women
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain positive team culture with Social Media Officers and wider GRTW team
Knowledge and/or experience in content creation platforms like Canva and creating posts, short-form content (i.e. reels), and stories
Enjoys brainstorming, creative thinking and working with a small team to create ways to grow and engage a vibrant community
